About this gathering
Loyalty forms the basis of trust, lasting collaborations and shared success. It connects people to organisations, customers to suppliers and generations to the enterprises they built together.
Yet that connectedness can also influence the decisions needed to keep growing.
An employee who was once indispensable no longer grows with the organisation. A collaboration of many years endures while the underlying business relationship has fundamentally changed. A director postpones a difficult decision because of the history shared with others.
The underlying question touches on the responsibility leaders carry for both the people and the future of their organisation.
What is the price of loyalty when interests begin to collide?

Two governance worlds
Within family businesses, ownership, mutual relationships and shared history are closely interwoven. Loyalty can span generations and influence succession, leadership and strategic choices.
Within corporates, loyalty plays out in a different governance context. Responsibilities towards shareholders, employees, management and other stakeholders shape the trade-offs leaders make.
The circumstances differ, while the underlying dilemmas can be strikingly similar.
Tier¹ therefore deliberately brings leaders from family businesses and corporates together to examine different perspectives on loyalty, responsibility and organisational development.
When does loyalty become an obstacle to good leadership? How do you determine what you owe your people? And how do earlier contributions relate to the responsibilities of today?
Food for Thought
Food for Thought is a private series of executive roundtables by Tier¹, in which eight carefully selected entrepreneurs, CEOs and directors come together around a relevant strategic question.
Each gathering brings different experiences, governance cultures and perspectives together.
During a shared three-hour lunch, room emerges for depth and a confidential exchange. The Chatham House Rule applies.
The setting
This time Food for Thought comes to The Residence, the own venue of Tier¹ at Villa Geurdenhof in Oss.
A private setting, at distance from daily practice, with room for a conversation that rarely gets space elsewhere.
Who it is for
Food for Thought is intended for entrepreneurs, CEOs and senior executives from family businesses and corporates. Leaders who carry responsibility for strategic decisions and know the tension of loyalty up close. Participation is by personal invitation only.
